Manchester United are finally moving in the transfer market and are closing in on their first signing of the summer. Feyenoord left-back Tyrell Malacia is poised to join the club after United hijacked Olympique Lyon’s deal to sign the Dutchman.
Elsewhere, Erik ten Hag has made it clear that he would like to strengthen his side’s midfield, having lost two long-serving figures in that area.
Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic have both left the club this summer and that has left a gaping hole in the middle of the park, which Ten Hag will be desperate to fill.
Now, it has been suggested that Ten Hag has resurrected United’s interest in Leicester star Youri Tielemans, who has impressed since joining Leicester in 2019.
That’s according to The Times, who say that Tielemans is back on United’s wishlist this summer, with the player reportedly ‘of interest’ to Ten Hag.
Tielemans has just one year remaining on his contract at Leicester and could be snapped up at a cut-price deal, having shown no signs of extending his stay at the King Power Stadium.

The news of United’s interest in Tielemans comes after the club made headway in their pursuit of Frenkie de Jong, who is edging closer to joining the Old Trafford club this summer.
United have been locked in negotiations with Barcelona over the Dutchmidfielder for several weeks but the latest update suggests that an agreement over a transfer fee has now been reached.
An initial fee of €65m has been agreed in principle, with add-ons set to take the total to €85m. Furthermore, after initially harboring doubts over a move, De Jong is now said to be minded about joining Ten Hag at United.
SN’s verdict…
Tieleman’s short contract length and reluctance to sign a new deal at Leicester should mean that the Foxes are looking to cash in on their midfield asset this summer.
But there are question marks over whether he would fit Ten Hag’s style. Tielemans has shown a reluctance to do the dirty work over his three years at Leicester and is, at times, reminiscent of Pogba.
With the transfer window well underway, it’s not looking like any big club are making a concerted effort to sign Tielemans and perhaps that should count as the first red flag.
