Manchester United are closing in on a deal for Frenkie de Jong.
According to Spanish newspaper Sport, the Barcelona midfielder is already negotiating his salary with United, with the two clubs close to reaching an agreement.
It’s been a long time coming but United are finally approaching the finish line by completing a deal for De Jong, who is Erik ten Hag’s primary target and possibly the player he will build his team around for the coming years.
Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano claims the clubs are currently discussing a bonus package to complete the deal, with the transfer being a work in progress.

After €65m new verbal bid, Barça ask for €85/86m fee. The agreement is finally getting closer as clubs are in talks about add-ons to reach €85m full package.

Ten Hag will be delighted if De Jong is his first signing at United, but I also think he would have been disappointed to arrive at training at Carrington on Monday with the club yet to announce any new arrivals.
Tomorrow’s addition of Sport adds that Sixht Street will buy 10% of the TV rights to help their ongoing financial crisis. That on top of the transfer fee they will receive for De Jong should give them the funds to register new signings this summer.
Barcelona really need to get their books sorted or United and other teams will continue to take advantage of them in the transfer market.
