Manchester United are planning to complete the signing of Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong by next week, according to reports.

TalkSPORT understands United are close to agreeing a fee in the region of £68 million for the Netherlands international, with the club trying to get a deal over the line by June 30.

It’s been clear since the transfer window opened that Erik ten Hag wants to reunite with De Jong, who was part of his Ajax squad that reached the Champions League semi-finals in 2018/19.

The midfielder now looks set to become the first signing for the new manager and he will be delighted, we’re sure, as it’s been his prime target since day 1.

The report from talkSPORT adds: “It has taken a little while to get over the line, mainly due to the negotiations over the price tag.”

Fans are becoming increasingly frustrated with how long it takes United to conclude deals, but this would certainly lift some pressure for the meantime. You would hope that the other deals get done quicker.

We could be gearing up for a busy week at Old Trafford.
