Recent reports suggest Chelsea owner Todd Boehly met with Jorge Mendes in Portugal last week.
According to The Athletic, the pair discussed the idea of Cristiano Ronaldo joining Chelsea, but it was unclear if Boehly would decide to follow up the meeting with a formal offer.
The report itself surprised us – and many other journalists, who quickly started contacting their sources for any updates on the matter.
Caught Offside believe that the meeting with Boehly was requested by Mendes.
The new Chelsea owner is said to have attended the meeting with Mendes out of courtesy because they have no real interest in trying to bring the 37-year-old forward to Stamford Bridge.
This would suggest that Mendes is trying to engineer a summer move for his star client.
It must be a wake-up call that even Chelsea aren’t interested.
Life after United, the second time, will be intriguing chapter in the Ronaldo story. It’s a question of now or next year.
