(Video) Richard Arnold aims subtle dig at Ed Woodward during meeting with United fans

You won’t hear from many Manchester United fans who have good things to say about Ed Woodward. Now his former colleagues are beginning to speak out about the bankers bizarre quest for stardom in the football world.

Richard Arnold replaced Woodward as the club’s CEO this year and his recent comments to a group of fans in a leaked video show his true feelings on his predecessor.

We had nine years of Woodward thinking he knew what he was doing, but it now seems like Arnold will leave football matters to John Murtough, ultimately accepting that he is not the best fit to negotiate some of the biggest deals in sport.

When asked by the fans whether Erik ten Hag would be backed on his summer targets, Arnold replied with a subtle dig at his predecessor, saying: “Do you want me buying the players? Does that not ring a bell?”

Although it looks like Arnold was secretly filmed in the footage above (courtesy of @MufcWonItAll), there is no way he didn’t know he was being recorded or he’s more naïve than we thought. This is someone who has had his private emails plastered all over social media in the last few weeks, he had to have known in this day and age.

Woodward couldn’t help himself at times and overruled others with more expertise at the club. We must give credit to Arnold on meeting those fans on Saturday, too.

I’m not saying you can believe everything he said during the meeting, but it was good to see some dialogue between the club and our fans.

More of this is needed.
