Manchester United hoping to sell Anthony Martial this summer

It’s a real shame that Manchester United have seen Anthony Martial regress in recent years. After bursting onto the scene with a goal against Liverpool, we thought the sky was the limit for the Frenchman.

New manager Erik ten Hag will be assessing his squad over the summer, with a lot of hope that United’s recruitment team can secure his top targets. Talks are underway with Barcelona over primary target Frenkie de Jong.

However, with 11 players leaving due to expiring contracts, Ten Hag is expected to move on more players.

According to The Telegraph, Martial is one of those players, with United hoping to offload the forward this summer.

James Ducker writes: “United are hoping to offload Anthony Martial and use any fee towards the cost of a new attacker.”

United have reportedly began talks with Ajax over Brazilian winger Antony, who may be a better fit for Ten Hag’s preferred style of play since he spent the last two seasons playing under the Dutchman in Amsterdam.

The Athletic previously claimed that Ten Hag would look at Martial in pre-season before making a definite decision, but it sounds like he may need to cash in on the former AS Monaco star if he wants to sign a new forward.

SN’s verdict

Martial is a very talented footballer, but you have to question whether he has put the work in to become an even better player.

He’s spent the past few years in and out of the French team – and it was only a matter of time before he fell down the pecking order at United.

On loan at Sevilla for the past six months, Martial failed to impress and the La Liga club have made it clear that they were not interested in signing him on a permanent deal.

We hope Marcus Rashford doesn’t go the same way and shows a significant improvement next season.
