Another night, another Frenkie de Jong story to talk about.

Barcelona’s financial difficulties have been well documented over the past year. The collapse saw Lionel Messi’s contract offer ripped to shreds and they’re now struggling to register new players in the transfer market.

The problems at Camp Nou are explained in greater detail by Carmen Torres, in a report for Spanish newspaper Marca. She claims that, at the moment, the only sale that seems feasible is that of Manchester United target Frenkie de Jong.

United’s interest features heavily in the report. Apparently, an offer worth €60m plus €20m in bonuses has been tabled and Barcelona don’t believe they will receive that sort of money for any other player.

Moreover, the suits at Barcelona consider the offer “too important not to accept” as the rumours over a switch to Old Trafford continue.

We are still none the wiser about De Jong’s feelings about coming to United ahead of next season, with no Champions League football on offer, but his tune may change about staying at Barcelona if they decide to cash in by accepting our reported offer.

Only time will tell if Erik ten Hag can get his mane to build United’s midfield around.
