Manchester United and Tottenham are both being linked with a move to sign Alessandro Bastoni from Inter Milan.
That is according to Gianluca Di Marzio and it backs up claims about United being in the transfer market for a left-footed centre-back.
Di Marzio claims the North London side have initiated talks with Bastoni and Inter Milan but have yet to make an official offer. He adds that United have today made a move for the 23-year defender.
The Italian made 31 appearances this season and has every reason to be happy in Italy, but it is also suggested that he wouldn’t be opposed to a move.
However, having previously worked under Antonio Conte, Tottenham may have the upper hand. They can offer Champions League football unlike United.
Spurs have already brought in Ivan Perisic, so there’s already been attempts to bring some of Conte’s former players to London.
As I have said repeatedly on the blog in recent weeks, it’s worth paying close attention to the Jurrien Timber links. Maybe Pau Torres too.
I would suspect Bastoni is lower down on United’s preference list for centre-backs.
Erik ten Hag certainly needs to address the problems in defence and midfield this summer, but some fans have every right to argue our need for a younger centre-forward. It’s a lot to fit in one transfer window.
