We can only imagine that Donny van de Beek was delighted when Manchester United announced Erik ten Hag as their new manager.

The pair worked successfully together at Ajax before the midfielder switch Amsterdam for Manchester in 2020. It goes without saying that their best moment at the Dutch club was not only winning the Eredivisie but reaching the Champions League semi-finals in 2019.

However, Van de Beek went on to have a difficult time at United and he was sent on loan to Everton in January. He didn’t set the Premier League alight as Everton narrowly escaped relegation and his spell at Goodison Park was hampered by knocks and niggles.

With that being said, Fabrizio Romano claims Van de Beek is part of Ten Hag’s plans for next season. The journalist has been told the midfield is now expected to play a role in the United team.

Van de Beek made 110 appearances under Ten Hag at Ajax and directly contributed to 61 goals during that time.

United fans will be hoping the new manager can help get the best out of a player who currently looks like another example of poor recruitment.

It could be a big season for Van de Beek.
