Facundo Pellistri continues to perform for Uruguay despite not getting much of a look in at Deportivo Alaves this season.
The 20-year-old is yet to make his competitive debut for Manchester United after joining the club from Penarol in October 2020. Other than scoring against Derby County in a pre-season friendly, United fans have seen very little of Pellistri since his arrival.
Despite his struggles in Spain with a side that finished at the bottom of La Liga, the young winger may have given United manager Erik ten Hag something to think about after an impressive display in Uruguay’s 3-0 win over Mexico in Arizona.
Uruguay coach Diego Alonso explained why he selects Pellistri amid questions over the lack of game time he got during his time at Alaves. He was rewarded for showing that trust in the player against the Mexican side, with the 20-year-old going from strength to strength on the international stage.
Pellistri produced an assist at the start of the second half. He showed his skill, pace and strength to beat his man and burst down the wing before setting up Edinson Cavani with a low cross into the box.

Meanwhile, it has already been announced that Cavani will be leaving United when his contract expires at the end of the month.
It will be interesting to see if Ten Hag gives Pellistri, or even Amad Diallo, an opportunity to prove themselves in pre-season. United don’t have a senior right winger as things stand.
