PSG enter race to sign Manchester United target Frenkie de Jong

Frenkie de Jong is one of the biggest names linked with a move to Manchester United this summer.

The Guardian reported interest from Old Trafford after Erik ten Hag was confirmed as the new manager.

It was suggested that Ten Hag wanted to sign De Jong in an attempt to reshape United’s midfield, with players like Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic and Jesse Lingard all leaving the club next month.

However, with Barcelona’s disappointing season now over, De Jong sent a message to Barcelona supporters today and it sounds like he plans to stay at Camp Nou next season.

De Jong wrote on Instagram: “It has been a disappointing season for us. We couldn’t achieve the goals we set at the beginning. But I want to thank the fans for their support this year. We will work hard to do better next season.”

The above statement won’t be enough to completely quench the ongoing speculation over De Jong’s future.

Spanish publication SPORT suggests Paris Saint-Germain have joined the race to sign the former Ajax midfielder.

With Kylian Mbappe staying in Paris, De Jong may find it difficult to turn the French club down as they’ve secured a place in next season’s Champions League after winning Ligue 1.

De Jong sitting in a midfield behind Mbappe, Lionel Messi and Neymar could be a dangerous force in Europe.
