Manchester United could sign Barcelona full-back Sergino Dest this summer, according to reports.
The 21-year-old is not seen as a long-term part of Xavi’s plans and he could be moved on this summer, just two years after joining Barcelona from Ajax.
According to 90min, Dest has been told that he can find a new club, with intermediaries working hard within their networks to get him out of Barca. They state that the United States international would ‘jump at the chance’ to play for Erik ten Hag again.
Ten Hag may dip into the transfer market for a new right-back because there are fears from people at the club over whether Aaron Wan-Bissaka or Diogo Dalot are good enough. On top of that, a year down the line, I wouldn’t be surprised if we are talking the need for a new left-back.
The Dutch coach will know more about Dest than the rest of us but we definitely need someone at right-back who can deliver in the final third, which is why Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wanted to sign Kieran Trippier last summer.
Time will tell who United target for the vacancy at right-back, but it’s interesting to see the Telegraph claim that Ten Hag wants to sign one as he starts his rebuild this summer.
It may be worth asking why he has struggled so much at Barcelona and whether he can be the upgrade United need?
