Manchester United are going to be busy in the transfer market this summer and amid Erik ten Hag’s imminent arrival at Carrington, rumours regarding supposed transfer targets are ramping up.

As expected, there has been a spike in links to Dutch players since Ten Hag’s appointment and earlier on Tuesday, there were claims that United are in talks with Ajax to sign defender Jurrien Timber.

United are clearly in the market to acquire a central defender this season, with none of the partnerships at the club’s disposal working out this season.

AC Milan have been heavily linked with a move for Lille star Sven Botman but in an extraordinary twist, there are now suggestions that United are hijacking the Italian club’s move for the former Newcastle target.

That’s according to Football Insider, who say that Milan are in ‘advanced talks’ to sign Botman for roughly £25m. But as per the report, that deal could now be in jeopardy as United are said to be exploring a move for the highly-rated defender.

In an Amsterdam meeting last week, potential transfer targets were on the agenda and Botman is believed to have been discussed, with an agreement being reached that preliminary talks over a move would happen.

SN’s verdict…
It would make a nice change for United supporters to see their club flex their muscles in the transfer market and Botman certainly fits the profile of the kind of player Ten Hag would like to bring in.

He has overseen tremendous development with Timber this season and although he remains one of the most highly-rated youngsters in Europe, he is still only 20 years old and has little European experience.

Botman is a year older and reportedly rejected a move to Newcastle earlier this year and should United decide to follow through with the supposed hijacking, they would be signing a very exciting prospect.
