Manchester United have “serious interest” in Benfica striker Darwin Nunez this summer.
A quick look at his stats will tell you exactly why Nunez, aged 22, appeals to United.
The Uruguayan striker has had an incredible season after scoring 34 goals in 41 games across all competitions. He also starred in the Champions League as Benfica reached the quarter-finals before getting knocked out against Liverpool.
According to The Athletic, Nunez has generated serious interest from United and other clubs, with a firm expectation that he will leave this summer.
Benfica would like a deal to be completed early in the market, so a replacement can be bought before the transfer window shuts.
The report adds that Stuttgart’s Sasa Kalajdzic is under strong consideration to replace Nunez at the Portuguese Primera Liga club.
It goes without saying that United need to sign another attacker this summer. Edinson Cavani is set to leave on a Bosman, while Anthony Martial’s future remains up in the air.
The France international could be handed an opportunity to rediscover his best form under Erik ten Hag but we will have to wait and see what happens when the Dutchman meets with United for more discussions this week.
Ten Hag has a lot of decisions to make over the coming weeks.
