Manchester United have endured a disastrous season and the last three months have been especially excruciating, with Ralf Rangnick’s side succumbing to a handful of humiliating defeats.

Victory over Crystal Palace in their final game next week would put United on 61 points – their lowest total of points ever in the Premier League era.

Jadon Sancho, the former Borussia Dortmund star, has struggled to adapt to the Premier League but has seen an improvement in his form in the second half of the campaign.

The 22-year-old has now welcomed the appointment of Erik ten Hag, the current Ajax boss, and commented on the expectations at United following their dismal nine months.

“To start again fresh, with a new manager coming in, we’re looking forward to seeing what his ideas and plans for the team are,” Sancho told Premier League Productions, via the official Manchester United website.

“You only have to think positively. My career is only getting started and, hopefully, it will take off soon. This has been a difficult season, especially being a Manchester United player, with what the club has achieved over the years.

“United is known for winning trophies and being up there with the best. This season has been a difficult one for all of us, but I think we still have to show belief again.”

SN’s verdict…
There are several players at United who will be fearing for their futures this summer but Sancho is not one of them. The former Manchester City player enjoyed an upturn in form at the turn of the year and although the season as a whole has been disappointing, he’s likely to be firm in Ten Hag’s plans.

Ten Hag has a track record of nurturing young, tricky wingers and Sancho certainly falls into that category. Furthermore, he is an established professional and remains one of the best wide players in the world.
