Manchester United are in the market for a striker this summer despite Cristiano Ronaldo’s fine goalscoring season. The 37-year-old has just one year remaining on his contract and he is yet to confirm whether he will be staying for the final year of his deal.
The Old Trafford club holds a longstanding interest in Tottenham striker Harry Kane but for various reasons, a move has never materialised over the years.
Kane has been tied down to a long-term contract since 2018 and was priced out of a move to Manchester City last year, with Tottenham declining a £100m bid from United’s rivals.
There is, however, some uncertainty over his future ahead of this summer as he enters the final two years of his contract. His manager, Antonio Conte, has just one year remaining on his deal and there are question marks over whether he will be staying beyond this season.
Roberto De Fanti, the Italian super-agent, has now explained that Conte’s decision-making could be crucial in Kane’s future this summer, insisting that if the Italian manager was to leave Tottenham, Kane would only want to join Manchester United.
“He (Conte) wants a striker to provide cover and competition for Harry Kane and Son Heung-min, a top midfielder and a left-footed centre-back – these are not going to be cheap players,” De Fanti wrote in his CaughtOffside column.

“We are talking £50m – £60m each. Will Levy sanction that? – Time will tell, but one thing I will say is, if Conte does walk away from Tottenham Hotspur, I think Kane will go too and if that does happen, the only club the Englishman would want to go to now is Manchester United.
