Donny van de Beek suffers another injury blow as midfielder is ruled out for Everton

Donny van de Beek’s loan at Everton isn’t according to plan and his season has taken another turn for the worse ahead of Everton’s showdown with Leicester this weekend.

Van de Beek failed to start a single game in the Premier League this season and was eventually shipped out to Frank Lampard’s Everton in January, where he became a mainstay in the Englishman’s first-choice line-up.

Van de Beek hasn’t featured for Everton since March and has missed six of the last seven games with a thigh injury. He returned to the match-day squad last month but was an unused substitute before aggravating that injury again later.

Ahead of their trip to Leicester this weekend, Lampard has confirmed that Van de Beek will miss out once again as he nears the end of his six-month spell on Merseyside.

“Andre (Gomes) is back in the squad for selection, Donny’s not,” Lampard said in his pre-match press conference, as seen above.

It’s the latest blow in a series of unfortunate events for Van de Beek, who will be counting his lucky stars to have possibly caught a break in his bid to revive his career.

Ten Hag is set to take over at Old Trafford at the end of this season and Van de Beek enjoyed his best football under the Dutchman at Ajax.

A major revamp is expected at the club and Van de Beek, who has been largely overlooked by both Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick, will see this summer as his best opportunity to kickstart his United career.
