Mitchell van der Gaag will become Erik ten Hag’s assistant manager at Manchester United.
The 50-year-old, who is currently Ten Hag’s right-hand man at Ajax, will follow the fellow Dutchman to Old Trafford at the end of the season.
There had been talk of former England manager and Sir Alex Ferguson assistant Steve McClaren being part of his new backroom staff, but that is no longer expected to be the case.
On top of that, United fans can expect an announcement on Ten Hag becoming manager soon, as promised by respected journalist Fabrizio Romano, who shared the latest news on Twitter tonight.
Romano has tweeted: “Erik ten Hag to Manchester United, Mitchell van der Gaag together with him as part of the coaching staff… Man United plan confirmed and set to be announced soon, as expected.”

The news should excite United fans who have waited impatiently for Ten Hag to be announced, as it has been clear for the past 3-4 weeks that he was the frontrunner, beating Paris Saint-Germain manager Mauricio Pochettino in the process.
His Ajax side suffered defeat to PSV Eindhoven in the Dutch Cup final last weekend, although they are still on course to win a third Eredivisie title under the soon-to-be announced United manager.
The wait is almost over, plus the sooner we can turn our attention to next season the better!
