Andy Cole urges United should sign frightening Bundesliga starlet instead of Declan Rice

Andy Cole believes Manchester United should sign Borussia Dortmund sensation Jude Bellingham ahead of Declan Rice this summer.

West Ham and England ace Declan Rice has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford, although David Moyes has said the Hammers will want over £150 million for his signature.

However, Cole thinks Bellingham would be a better option if United plan to spend a significant portion of their summer transfer budget on a midfielder.

“£150m for a holding midifield player? That’s a lot of money,” Cole told Sky Sports, as quoted by the Daily Mail.

“Not sure how many goals he’s going to get you from that position.

“We are just talking, if the opportunity comes about when Rice is available in the summer and you had Bellingham come available, who would you spend your £150m on?

“Personally, I would go with Bellingham, he’s 18-years of age and he goes that way, that way [points up and down], he creates chances, he scores goals.

“For such a young man, his ability is absolutely frightening. Bellingham has something extra, just energy.”

Former academy graduate Luke Chadwick recently suggested that Liverpool would be a more attractive transfer destination than United for Bellingham due to their recent successes under Jurgen Klopp.

“If Liverpool and United are both interested and both make an offer, then I’m sure Jude Bellingham would choose Liverpool,” Chadwick told Caught Offside.

“They’re closer to the top of the Premier League, they’ve won things under Jurgen Klopp…

“Maybe if Liverpool weren’t interested you’d like to think United would be there or thereabouts, but again you’ve got to be in the Champions League to attract players like Bellingham.”

It would be a blow to see a young exciting midfielder with so much potential join Liverpool, especially when their latest signing Luis Diaz has been an instant hit in the Premier League.

United seem to be getting weaker while Liverpool and Man City grow stronger.

Something has to change.
