Manchester United not launching a cricket team

Reports recently suggested that Avram Glazer was considering the idea of setting up a Manchester United cricket team after a visit to the United Arab Emirates.

However, Manchester United have no plans to launch a cricket team in the near future, and we should hope so because the focus needs to be becoming a successful football team again.

Not finding the alternative to Cristiano Ronaldo in the cricket world.

Glazer met with Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum earlier this month to discuss the UAE T20 Cricket league’s launch for next year. Speculation grew as a result of the meeting and people starting having IPL cricket prediction thoughts for the Manchester United brand.

He posted on Twitter: “I met with Avram Glazer, co-chairman of Manchester United, today and discussed ways to work together to further raise Dubai’s profile as a global sporting hub. We also discussed the UAE T20 Cricket league’s launch in January 2023 featuring Manchester United cricket team and other teams.”

It sounds like someone got a little excited during the meeting because Manchester United have no plans to set up a cricket team. The idea may have been proposed to the Glazers but there is nothing in the works for it to become a reality.

This could see the Glazer family form a cricket team that has no relation to United, in the same way that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are owned by the Glazers.

In December, Avram Glazer purchased a UAE T20 side after failing in his bid to buy an Indian Premier League club. He was “excited” by the new journey, which we can assure you he will only use in another attempt to make money.

Avram Glazer said: “I am very excited to be a part of UAE 720 at its formation. UEA T20 promises to be a world-class event that will be transformative to the growth of cricket in the Emirates.”

The name of Avram Glazer’s cricket team remains unknown.

Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville took aim at Avram Glazer after he travelled to Dubai to discuss cricket. He quote tweeted the picture of the cricket meeting and wrote: “He must have stopped off on his way to Manchester for those fans meetings they promised post ESL!!

“United go out of the Champions League and he heads to Dubai to discuss Cricket!”

Neville’s dig at the Glazers is fair. They promised a dialogue with United fans, but their heads remain buried in the sand.
