Manchester United are on the verge of confirming Ajax boss Erik ten Hag as their new permanent manager.
Ten Hag, 52, has emerged as a leading candidate to succeed interim boss Ralf Rangnick at the end of the season.
Since managing Ajax from 2017, the Dutchman has grown to become one of Europe’s most highly-rated tacticians with standout campaigns including an unlikely Champions League semi-final in 2018-19.
It has not just been the nature of Ajax’s performances that have impressed when it comes to ten Hag’s ability to manage though.
Ajax is in a great position with stability running through its core – ten Hag certainly displays certain characteristics that the Red Devils would undoubtedly benefit from.

Stretty News understands that a meeting was held between senior United officials and Ten Hag last week, in London and although a total agreement has yet to be reached, sources remain confident it won’t be long.
We also understand that an assistant manager is also on the agenda for United’s recruitment team with an ex-player preferred due to the need to unify the dressing room.
Rio Ferdinand has put himself forward for the role but club officials remain unconvinced.
Another candidate that is under consideration is former striker and club legend Robin van Persie, who, we understand, is also keen on the role.
Discussions are ongoing but there is now a real desire and push from United to get everything in place as soon as possible and ahead of next season.
