Anthony Martial stopped enjoying football at Manchester United

Anthony Martial has claimed that he lost the enjoyment he had for football at Manchester United.

The Frenchman fell out of favour at Old Trafford before joining Sevilla on loan in January. He was also accused of refusing to travel with the United squad to Aston Villa before his departure but the forward went on to reject that claim, as per BBC Sport.

Since arriving in Spain, Martial has suffered from a muscle injury which caused him to miss a couple of matches, and it already sounds like the La Liga side won’t extend his deal at the end of the season.

After all, Martial has scored just one goal in six appearances for the club, so it wouldn’t be correct to say he has hit the ground running in La Liga. Hopefully he has a strong end to the season because that might increase his value in the market, therefore, giving United a chance to sell at a high price.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, the former AS Monaco youth team graduate says he lost some enjoyment for football at Old Trafford.

“It’s just because people don’t really know me,” Martial said. “Sometimes you see me and I’m not smiling, but in life ask everyone: I’m always smiling.

“It doesn’t reflect how I feel because on the pitch I try to do my best. I’m not smiling but I’m just focused.”

“People can think what they want, it’s okay for me.” He added: “‘For me, it was the best option to play and enjoy football again.

“I lost it a little bit in Manchester because I was not playing. I feel very good in Sevilla.

“The city is very good and we are a good team so, for me, it’s perfect. I’m playing so I’m happy.

“But I’m here just until the end of the season and that’s it.”

It sounds like Martial has already accepted that he won’t be at Sevilla next season, but could he return to Old Trafford? That will come down to the next manager or whether the club think they could get a good deal for Martial.
