Atletico Madrid will travel to Manchester next week to face Ralf Rangnick’s Red Devils in a second leg Champions League knockout tie.

Both sides played out a tense 1-1 draw at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium last week, setting up a nervy return leg next week.

The first leg looked nailed on to go the La Liga side’s way after a superb opener from Joao Felix fired Diego Simeone’s men into a well-deserved lead.

However, writing his name into United folklore, youngster Anthony Elanga came up with a vital equaliser late on in the second half.

Anthony Elanga scored Manchester United’s equaliser against Atletico Madrid.

With both sides now set to meet at Old Trafford in what will be a shootout to reach the prestigious competition’s next round, the Red Devils have been handed an early boost after defender Jose Gimenez has been ruled out through injury.

That’s according to a recent report from Spanish outlet AS, who claim the commanding Uruguayan centre-back has suffered a muscular problem and will now be sidelined for three weeks.

Gimenez was included in Simeone’s starting lineup to face United last week but will not be available for selection next time out.

United’s important clash against Atletico Madrid is scheduled for Tuesday 15 March with kick-off booked for 8 p.m (UK time). The tie will be broadcast live on BT Sport.
