Like anyone with a bit of dignity, Roy Keane doesn’t have much time for the ‘This is Anfield’ sign.
The former Manchester United captain finds it childish that, as an opposition player, Ian Wright was excited by the prospect of touching the sign.
Wright played for Crystal Palace, Arsenal and West Ham throughout his career. And, when touching the silly sign at Anfield during his playing days, he made sure his team-mates didn’t see him acknowledging it.
In the ITV studio, Keane made it clear he wasn’t buying what Wright was selling, which explains why the former Arsenal forward felt the need to hide what he was doing.
When asked if he touched the sign as a player, Wright said: “I had to touch it… it’s iconic, it’s unbelievable.”
Then Keane added: “Of course not. No point… I’m not sure why you touched it, Wrighty. It’s childish… what benefit did you get out of it?”
