Sir Alex Ferguson was back in familiar territory today.
The former Manchester United manager returned to Aberdeen where he spent incredible eight years before moving to Old Trafford.
Ferguson won three league titles at Aberdeen and beat Real Madrid in the European Cup Winners’ Cup final, as well as winning the European Super Cup, so it goes without saying that he is renowned as the Scottish club’s best ever manager following his spell in the 1980s.
Of course, we only see Ferguson as the greatest football manager of all-time. Nobody comes close, which is why Aberdeen unveiled a statue they have commissioned for him.
The great man received a standing ovation at Pittodrie after all the success he had achieved at Aberdeen.
On top of that, Aberdeen fans sold out the Richard Donald Stand to welcome him back.

Ferguson said: “I am thrilled and honoured by this recognition from Aberdeen Football Club, where I spent a fantastic and memorable part of my managerial career.”
As we all know, Sir Alex already has a statue at Old Trafford and a stand named after him.
He was in Madrid for United’s 1-1 draw against Atletico Madrid on Wednesday.
