Harry Maguire denies rift between him and Cristiano Ronaldo

When Manchester United face Leeds United this weekend, the Reds will be looking to put a lot of negativity publicity behind them and claim another three points in our bid to finish in the top four this season.

Last night we cited a report from The Mirror which stated that Harry Maguire and Cristiano Ronaldo have had a row over the captaincy role at Old Trafford.

According to David McDonnell, who we should state is usually reliable with United news, the two stars are ‘embroiled in a power struggle’ over who should captain the side for the remainder of the season.

This all came after Marcus Rashford rubbished claims made by German reporter Christian Falk following suggestions the forward – along with Maguire – is ‘irritated’ by Ronaldo. The move to “call out” bogus claims was backed by a Sky Sports News reporter, so we don’t think Falk will be appearing on Sky Sports anytime soon.

Maguire has denied the latest reports, tweeting: “I’ve seen a lot of reports about this club that aren’t true and this is another.

“Not going to start posting about everything that is written but I need to make this one clear. We’re united and focused on Sunday. Enjoy your day everyone.”

While it must be annoying for footballers having to squash certain rumours in the press, I have no doubt these two journalists will be saying ‘there’s no smoke with fire’ and here, we’ve got two similar stories involving both Maguire and Ronaldo.

It should be part of Maguire’s role as captain to shoot down big stories that creep out, true or not, especially in the modern game when rumours can go viral on social media.

We have no doubt that Rangnick will be asked about it at his press conference later today.
