Rangnick names dangerous Brighton star who forced United to make tactical tweak

Although Brighton lost 2-0 on Tuesday night at Old Trafford, one player stood out for the visitors.

Tariq Lamptey put in an impressive performance in Brighton’s 2-0 defeat to Manchester United in the Premier League.

The Seagulls were excellent in the first-half but Graham Potter’s side crumbled in the second half thanks to goals from Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes.

One of the biggest positives for 10-men Brighton was Lamptey — who replaced Leandro Trossard on the hour mark — with his 22 touches and a 100% pass success rate.

The 21-year-old created problems for United and Rangnick had to tweak things tactically.

At full-time, the United interim boss said (via MEN reporter Samuel Luckhurst): “Their right side with Lamptey was the dangerous side. Lamptey played up front, almost like a right winger for 15 minutes, and that’s why we decided to bring on Alex Telles to support Luke Shaw on that side.”

It was great to have Alex Telles back as an option last night because it made matters harder for the Seagulls, who already had a man sent off, and he also reached a milestone by making his 400th career appearance.

The versatile right-back is a player I would like to see at United, but it’s important to remember that we have Ethan Laird coming back from Bournemouth in the summer and he’s another brilliant young player.
