Ralf Rangnick set to bring Fred back into the team against Brighton

Ralf Rangnick gave a team update to the media at Carrington during this afternoon’s press conference.

The German announced that Fred is available again after recovering from COVID-19, so the Brazilian is set to be part of the group to face Southampton on Tuesday night.

Fellow Brazilian, Alex Telles, also tested positive for COVID-19 after a recent international break, but he was part of the match day squad for Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Southampton.

Rangnick also confirmed that Edinson Cavani is still out, along with Nemanja Matic, but I don’t think neither of those players would’ve been in the frame to start anyway.

“Yes, Fred will be available again and will also be part of the group for tomorrow,” Rangnick told reporters, as per Manchester Evening News. “Edinson is still out, the same with Nema [Matic].

“Alex [Telles] is back again in the squad – he was already part of the group for the Southampton game – and he will also be available.”

It’s always a boost to get players back from injury but that doesn’t excuse the fact that we are dropping points against weaker opposition. Now facing Brighton provides a challenge for the players, who can’t seem to put away teams in order to clinch three points.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Rangnick started with Fred to add his energy to the side.

The Reds will be up against it.
