Wayne Rooney says that he would “love” to manage Manchester United or Everton one day.
The all-time record goalscorer in Manchester United history was talking at the premiere of his new Amazon documentary, Rooney, which releases today.
Rooney’s current side are battling against relegation fro the Championship but the circumstances have gone against him as manager. Derby are in administration and have been docked 21 points this season, so they sit at the bottom of the table with a slight chance of getting out of the drop zone before the season ends.
It would be an almighty feat for Rooney — in his first position as manager — if Derby avoid relegation this term.
The 36-year-old was also linked with the Everton job before Frank Lampard took over, but he wasn’t interested yet because of the task at hand.
When pressed on becoming United manager, Rooney said (via The Mirror): “As I’ve said before, Manchester United and Everton are both clubs I’d love to manage one day but I’ve got a commitment to Derby County.
“I’m fighting for them, so my focus has to be on Derby.”

It goes without saying that the job comes too soon for Rooney this summer. He won’t be expecting an offer but hopefully his managerial career can go from strength to strength.
