According to reports, Cristiano Ronaldo is planning showdown talks with his agent about his Manchester United future after becoming “disillusioned with life back at Old Trafford”.

Maybe Luke Chadwick had a point after all…

The Daily Star (I know) claim Ronaldo is hoping to have a meeting with Jorge Mendes when he returns to Portugal in March, ahead of a crunch World Cup qualifier with Turkey.

Author of the article, Jeremy Cross, said last month that Ronaldo was considering his future at the club while he waits to see who becomes the next manager.

The latest piece is seen as an updated chapter to the tales written about Ronaldo, which I always find peculiar since he lives a very private life for the biggest star in the beautiful game.

United’s form of late doesn’t help kill these stories. More dropped points will only see this speculation multiply.

Ronaldo was benched against Burnley and he stormed down the tunnel after we threw away a one-goal lead to draw 1-1 with the team sat bottom of the table. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to build a story from that.

The Portugal star has another year left on his contract at the end of the season.
