Manchester United set to open contract talks with David de Gea

De Gea in action for Man United.

Manchester United are preparing contract talks with David de Gea, according to reports.

90min understands that Manchester United are ready to sit down with the goalkeeper and his representatives over a new deal, with the Spaniard said to be keen on remaining at Old Trafford.

De Gea will hope to end his United career with trophies because he has not won enough of them during his time at the club. There’s been a number of underwhelming years when he has been asked to save us time and time again.

Moreover, this could be bad news for Dean Henderson, who is not going to wait around year-after-year if opportunities are not coming his way.

He’s one of the best back-up goalkeepers in the league and I don’t think sitting on the bench this season will do his development any good.

Henderson was close to a move to Newcastle United on deadline day but that fell through because Martin Dubravka did not want to go the other way to play second fiddle to De Gea.

The Spaniard has been at Old Trafford for more than a decade and another long-term contract could see him retire at the club.
