Another Manchester United headline that has us hanging our heads in shame.

According to Sky Sports, Manchester United youngster Anthony Elanga was subjected to racial abuse online last night following his penalty miss in the shoot-out defeat against Middlesbrough.

The result sees the Red Devils crashed out of the FA Cup and it means we are even more unlikely to win any silverware this season, with Boro winning 7-8 on penalties.

It’s a blow but it doesn’t excuse the abuse Elanga has been subject to from morons on social media.

A spokesperson for Meta, the company which owns Instagram, told Sky Sports it has already removed a number of comments on Elanga’s page and its investigation is ongoing.

We can only hope that those responsible for these hateful comments are dealt with appropriately. They should be banned from Instagram and handed a sentence plus fine on top of that.

It goes without saying that you should report any racist or hateful comments you see online, whether it’s directed at a United player or not.

Racism has no place in sport or society.
