Nobody is blaming Anthony Elanga for Manchester United getting knocked out of the FA Cup on Friday night.
The youngster may have missed his penalty to put Middlesbrough into the next round, but United missed enough chances to win the game before he got onto the pitch.
United had at least 8 big chances to score in normal time, yet a controversial goal – ignored by VAR – saw the game go into extra-time and then penalties.
We can definitely feel hard-done by, though we didn’t take our chances on the night. That’s the bottom line.
The United fans got behind Elanga by singing his name after the shootout. It was important to get behind the youngster after his miss, and it was great to see.
First choice goalkeeper David de Gea, who was given the night off, sent his support to Elanga via Twitter with a love heart emoji.

Dean Henderson replaced De Gea between the posts and did well up until the penalty shootout, when he failed to make a single save, as Boro won the shootout 7-8.
