Donny van de Beek could be playing regular football in the Premier League before we know it but not at Old Trafford.

We brought you reports this morning that Denis Bergkamp had urged Crystal Palace manager and former team-mate Patrick Vieira to make a loan move for the Netherlands midfielder, who has struggled to get first time football at Manchester United since his transfer from Ajax.

Sadly, it hasn’t gone to plan for Van de Beek under two different managers, with Ralf Rangnick — like Ole Gunnar Solskjaer — opting to start Fred and Scott McTominay ahead of him in a 4-3-3 formation.

Rangnick will stress that he needs options in his squad between now and the end of the season, though there’s little point keeping hold of unhappy players who are likely to miss out on the chance to represent their country at the World Cup in Qatar later this year.

Anthony Martial was in a similar situation before completing his loan switch to Sevilla and Jesse Lingard is reportedly keen to get a pay rise from Newcastle United.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has provided us with an update on Van de Beek’s situation with time running out for the London club to get a deal over the line.

He tweeted: “Talks ongoing again today between Manchester United and Crystal Palace for Donny van de Beek. Patrick Vieira is pushing to have Donny soon. Discussions on salary coverage and loan fee between the two clubs. No buy option clause included.”

Should United let Van de Beek go, they will hope he can impress throughout the remainder of the season and come back full of hungry for the next manager, who is set to be appointed in the summer. Either that or give his market value a bump to ensure the club doesn’t make a loss with any potential sale in the near future.

Let us know if you think Van de Beek has a future at United beyond this season? It may depend on whether Ajax boss Erik ten Hag lands the job over Mauricio Pochettino.
