Premier League team of the week: Manchester United duo make cut after win over West Ham

Two Manchester United players made the latest Premier League team of the week following a 1-0 win over West Ham.

This weeks XI was picked by BBC Sport columnist Garth Crooks.

Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes stood out against West Ham, although the latter didn’t make an appearance until the second half – but he had enough time to score a crucial winner. It was a six pointer and the result lifted United from 7th to 4th in the Premier League table.

We need to build momentum after the international break and the only way to do that is by winning football matches.

So far this season, United have been unable to go on a winning run and that is why we’ve spent so much time outside of the top four. That needs to change if we are to drag Chelsea back into the mix – and hopefully climb as high as third in the league.

Both United players in the TOTW are starting to play well again and that only bodes well for the foreseeable future as United look to secure one of the Champions League spots.

BBC Sport Premier League team of the week: Alisson; Ward-Peters, Van Dijk. Laporte, T. Silva; Shelvey, Moutinho, Fernandes; Ziyech, Sargent, Rashford.

  1. We did well to nullify the West Ham mid-fielders. Fernandez worked hard in defence in addition to his other efforts. Our defence and midfield were impressive. It bodes well.

Rashford got the headlines but my star was Cavani who laid it on a plate for him with great precision.
