Newcastle United pushing to sign Jesse Lingard before transfer deadline day

Newcastle United are trying to persuade Jesse Lingard to sign for them before transfer deadline day but unless he departs permanently this month, the England international can leave Manchester United for free in the summer when his contract expires.

The Mail claims Lingard is ‘intrigued’ by the project at St. James’ Park and could make a move with just over a week left in the transfer window, but West Ham are said to be monitoring events closely.

As Eddie Howe looks to bring in players from a number of positions, the Magpies will hold a meeting today to assess their position with several potential signings, and it looks like they are ready to push for Lingard again.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano tweeted an update this morning, saying: “Newcastle will push again on Jesse Lingard deal in the next hours. Magpies board working hard to sign Jesse at least until the end of the season, then he’ll become a free agent. Negotiations ongoing with both Manchester United and Lingard representatives.”

United should stick to their stance on Lingard and not allow him to leave this month unless someone pays a transfer fee.

Truth be told, I would rather keep him as an option from the bench for the remainder of the season than see him playing for Newcastle.
