Predicted Manchester United XI vs Brentford: Ronaldo and Rashford return

Manchester United will be looking to give their Premier League top-four hopes a push when they travel to face Brentford on Wednesday night.

After drawing 2-2 at Villa Park on Saturday, the Reds sit 7th in the league table, and on their travels they come up against newly promoted Brentford in what is set to be a tough match.

Thomas Frank’s side are currently positioned 14th and I think they’re good enough to push for a top 10 finish this season.

Of course, Brentford have not beaten United since 1938, but this will be their first clash in the league since 1947, a game that ended 0-0.

David de Gea will keep his place between the sticks. The Spaniard has been one of the best goalkeepers in the league this season and without him I fear our league position would be a lot worse.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka has been ruled out with illness, which makes Diogo Dalot a certainty to start. We also think Victor Lindelof should be the one to partner Raphael Varane again, with Harry Maguire kept on the bench for another game despite keeping his status as club captain. And, although the overall performance was below par on Saturday against Villa, I would stick with Alex Telles at left-back for this one.

In midfield it will be Fred alongside Scott McTominay, who returns from suspension for this encounter, with Mason Greenwood and Bruno Fernandes further forward in a 4-2-2-2 formation.

Up front, Cristiano Ronaldo will return and this could be when Marcus Rashford ends his goalscoring drought.

SN’s predicted Manchester United XI: De Gea; Dalot, Lindelof, Varane, Telles; Fred, McTominay, Greenwood, Fernandes; Ronaldo, Rashford.
