Manchester United face managerial tug-of-war as rival sounds out Mauricio Pochettino

Mauricio Pochettino is expected to be a leading candidate for the manager’s job at Old Trafford in five months’ time when Ralf Rangnick’s spell as interim manager comes to an end.

Fresh reports suggest United may have to make a move quickly in order to land the Argentine coach this summer, with the Telegraph suggesting that the Paris Saint-Germain boss has been sounded out by a Champions League rival about his availability at the end of the season.

The report adds that there has been no direct contact between the parties at this stage, but there is a feeling that Pochettino already knows he is wanted at United, with the club fully sure that the feeling is mutual.

Ajax manager Erik ten Hag is another name doing the rounds that we have been told to take seriously.

Pochettino is on course to win his first domestic title after missing out at PSG last term, however, the Parisian club desperately wants success in the Champions League. That is what he will judged on when he leaves Paris.

Is Poch the next man to stand in line after David Moyes, Louis van Gaal, Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer?

Rangnick will hope he can make men out of the boys before the next permanent manager comes in.
