Unsurprisingly, Manchester United were expected to make a number of changes to the side that was beaten convincingly by Wolves last week.

This will be Ralf Rangnick’s first time as manager in the FA Cup – the oldest competition in football – and he will want to get off to a winning start when United take on Aston Villa at Old Trafford tonight.

United will, of course, be without Ivorian Eric Bailly for potentially most of January due to involvement in the African Cup of Nations. I think he would have got minutes under his belt tonight but hopefully he delivers during the AFCON.

There is no change between the posts as David de Gea starts.

Diogo Dalot gets a chance to prove himself at right back, while Luke Shaw starts again on the opposite flank, with Victor Lindelof returning to partner Raphael Varane in the heart of defence.

Fred and Scott McTominay will sit in front of the defence but also behind Bruno Fernandes and Mason Greenwood.

Up top, it will be Edinson Cavani and Marcus Rashford.
