Manchester United to offer Paul Pogba £500k p/w contract to fend off transfer interest

The realisation that Paul Pogba could leave Manchester United for free in the summer is finally kicking in.

On his day, you could argue that the Frenchman is one of the best midfielders in the world, but sadly United fans have not seen enough of that since his return to the club in 2016.

Pogba is a player who plays with swagger, but he hasn’t had a reason to play with such flamboyance in a United shirt and his lack of commitment has been a cause for frustration down the years.

We should be looking at Pogba now, aged 28, thinking that we’ve seen his best years in a Red shirt but it still feels like he chooses when he wants to be the main man.

The last thing this United team needs is passengers.

However, according to The Sun, United will offer Pogba a £400,000 per week basic salary, rising to £500,000 with bonuses, all in attempt to keep his value.

The report claims the offer is to ward off the interest from Real Madrid, Juventus and PSG.

Pogba has yet to make an appearance under interim manager Ralf Rangnick, who is already facing pressure amid talk of a crisis unfolding in the dressing room, but it will be interesting to see how he performs once fully recovered from injury.

For a player who turns 29 this year, Pogba is not the leader he should be.

SN’s verdict

Pogba does not warrant such a deal at United, but the club find themselves in dangerous territory when they could lose such a commercial asset for zilch.

Now that is something that will hit home with the Glazers and maybe they will see how Ed Woodward’s contract dealings down the years have hurt the club, ultimately leaving the squad bloated.

It is a shame we never got to see Pogba at his best but it’s time to move on.

  1. Manutd is so pathetic, most of the players can’t be sold because of high wages and manutd is still planning to pay pogba 500k. A player(pogba) that has held the club to ransom on several occasions, a virus that started the clicks in the club during morinho’s time. What has this great club turn into? I might be considering joining another club as a fan. The shit is smelling too much.. Allow him to go for free and all the disgruntled players like Marshall, lingard, Matic, and any other player that feels they can cause unrest because Ronaldo is getting more game time and he is earning more than them.. Bring in ruben neves and forget about rice, is this same hype that they did for McGuire and forgot to sign Ruben Dias. Look at the outcome in McGuire
