Manchester United have reportedly made contact with Borussia Dortmund defender Dan-Axel Zagadou’s agent.
According to a report from Fussball Transfers (H/t Sport Witness), Manchester United and Newcastle United are interested in signing the 22-year-old centre-back, with the Red Devils seemingly quicker to make a move with the player’s agent.
Zagadou came through the youth ranks at Paris Saint-Germain but never managed to make a first-team appearance for the Ligue 1 side. He made the switch to Borussia Dortmund aged 18 and has had struggles with injuries during his time in Germany – missing over 77 matches over the past four-and-a-half seasons.
This doesn’t make for promising reading when United should be trying to cash in on Phil Jones this month.
Although he came in and played very well against Wolves, let’s not reattach ourselves to Jones and accept it would be best for all parties to move on even if other defenders at the club could learn a thing or two from him.
The report claims Ralf Rangnick is a driving force behind United’s interest in the Frenchman, noting that he tried to sign Zagadou for RB Leipzig in 2017.
Zagadou’s contract expires in June after five years in Germany.
