“They can’t afford me” – Roy Keane jokes about not getting United job

Roy Keane has joked about not getting the Manchester United manager’s job.

Micah Richards has been driving the former Manchester United captain around for a new Christmas series on YouTube.

The two pundits are two vastly different characters but together they form a brilliant chemistry that makes for entertaining viewing.

However, things got a little bit awkward when the topic of United was brought up.

Richards said he previously joked about Keane becoming United manager, but the Irishman didn’t see the funny side.

“Let’s talk about United. I joked on Sky give it Roy until the end of the season,” Richards said on Sky Bet’s YouTube channel.

Keane responded: “Why would that be a joke?”

After a range of back-and-forth exchanges, Keane was asked why he hasn’t ever been in the picture to manage United.

His reply was priceless, saying: “They can’t afford me!”

Moreover, if Keane did get the United job, Richards wanted to know how he would then deal with Harry Maguire and David de Gea after being critical of the pair on Sky Sports throughout the season.

Keane then said that, if he was to become United manager, he would challenge De Gea and Maguire to prove him wrong.

“The first thing you’d walk into the club, I’d pull them two I’d go, ‘I’ve been really critical of the two, prove me wrong’,” Keane added.

“And that’s the end of the conversation, if they get upset with it, go, no problems players are upset all the time. It’s not about the players liking the manager. The most important thing is you’d hope the players respect the manager.”

Ralf Rangnick ended up getting the job and Keane was never in the running.

It’s extremely unlikely that he will ever get the chance to manage United.
