Man Utd improve hope of signing Erling Haaland following Ralf Rangnick arrival

Manchester United have confirmed that Ralf Rangnick has become the club’s interim manager, with the German set to take charge of the team for the remainder of the season.

In a statement on United’s official website, they also stated that Rangnick will move into a consultancy role at the club after seeing through the six-month arrangement.

The 63-year-old is highly regarded and has been dubbed ‘the Godfather of Gegenpressen’, with his influence highlighted by the prominence of German coaches in Europe.

Rangnick has made a series of clever signings over his career, with Erling Haaland being one of them. The superstar forward was signed by Rangnick as a teenager for RB Salzburg.

Now, according to The Mirror, the arrival of Rangnick to United has improved hope that they could sign the Borussia Dortmund striker.

Haaland has been linked with a move to United in the past and his relationship with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been touted as one of the advantages United have over their rivals. Despite Solskjaer’s dismissal, they could still maintain the upper hand in the race to sign Haaland.

As per the report, Haaland is expected to leave Dortmund this summer, but a £68m release clause would need to be met to extract him from the German club.

SN’s verdict on Haaland potentially joining United…
Manchester United are well stocked in the forward department but admittedly, several of United’s main figures are on the wrong side of 30. Cristiano Ronaldo will celebrate his 37th birthday in roughly two months whilst Edinson Cavani is expected to leave the club in the summer.

Mason Greenwood has been touted to be the long-term striker at the club but his flexibility across the frontline would suggest that a striker joining the club wouldn’t necessarily hamper his development.

Haaland has a desire to play in the Premier League and a move to United makes perfect sense, with the sensational Norwegian striker seemingly being a perfect fit for the Old Trafford club.

The chance of reuniting with Solskjaer might have passed but that has offered a new opportunity – another stint with Rangnick, who will remain at the club beyond this season.
