Man Utd hold talks with former defender amid managerial vacancy

Manchester United are without a manager following the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The Norwegian was dismissed as United boss following his side’s dismal 4-1 defeat to Watford last weekend.

The vacant manager’s position has sparked several links, with Paris Saint-Germain chief Mauricio Pochettino at the forefront.

As per the statement on the official Manchester United website, Michael Carrick will take temporary charge of the team as the club looks to appoint an interim manager.

That would mean that in addition to Carrick, another man is expected to join the merry-go-round before a permanent manager is in place at the end of the season.

Former Manchester United defender Laurent Blanc has been linked with the job and according to Football Insider, the Old Trafford club held talks with the 56-year-old on Monday. The nature of the meeting supposed to be taking place today was to ascertain Blanc’s desire to take over for the rest of the season.

Furthermore, the Frenchman would reportedly be told that there is a chance that an impressive job could lead to a full-time gig, similar to how Solskjaer secured the position in 2019. Blanc, who left the post at Paris Saint-Germain in 2016, is currently under contract at Qatari club Al Rayyan.

SN’s verdict on Blanc potentially taking over for the remainder of the season…
Understandably, supporters are not thrilled over the idea of Carrick being in charge for the rest of the season and that’s where an interim manager enters the frame.

Blanc has largely been absent from the football scene since his departure from PSG in 2016 but maintains a healthy relationship with the United hierarchy.

A temporary appointment could help steady the ship as United look to recover their poor start to the season. The Reds have accumulated just 17 points after their opening 12 games and sit 8th in the Premier League table.
