€40m-valued Leicester star names Manchester United as one of his ‘dream’ clubs

Manchester United’s acquisition of Raphael Varane has put the breaks on the club being linked with every other centre-back in Europe so instead, the players are stirring the pot themselves.

Leicester City star Wesley Fofana, who enjoyed a breakthrough season with the Foxes last year, has gone on the record to name Manchester United as one of the ‘dream’ clubs he would like to play for.

Fofana is currently injured after sustaining a serious leg fracture in pre-season but remains one of the hottest prospects in the Premier League, having impressed in his first season at Leicester.

Speaking to Actu Foot, via Sport Witness, the 20-year-old has named Manchester United alongside two other Premier League clubs as ‘dream’ clubs.

“A club that makes me dream? There’s Marseille, Real Madrid, Barça. In the Premier League, there are Chelsea, United, City… But you have to work to make your dreams come true. Through work, you can achieve anything,” he said.

Despite having just one full season of Premier League action under his belt, Fofana is valued at a whopping €40m by Transfermarkt and is likely to dominate headlines over the next decade.

SN’s verdict on Fofana’s comments and a possible move to United…
Fofana is undeniably one of the most exciting young defenders in Europe but a move to Old Trafford, as things stand, seems unlikely.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer seems content with his current crop of defenders and the recent arrival of Varane will likely be seen as the last major defensive acquisition in quite a while.

Harry Maguire, the captain, is the first name on Solskjaer’s teamsheet and so is Varane when the Frenchman is fit. The sticking point is that they are both 28 years old and if United are planning beyond them already, Fofana could come into the picture.

The Leicester star’s comments won’t come as a surprise to anyone – United remains one of the biggest clubs in the world and certainly the biggest in England.

Moving to Old Trafford is still seen as the pinnacle for many stars around Europe and evidently, it’s no different for Fofana.
