Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is under huge scrutiny at the moment and according to the latest reports, Manchester United have drawn up a succession plan amid questions over the Norwegian’s future at the club.

That’s according to the Manchester Evening News, who claim that the club has made a decision on Solskjaer – and that’s to accept that a managerial change needs to be made.

As per the report, Manchester United have started their succession planning and see Brendan Rodgers as the ideal replacement for Solskjaer.

It is, however, unclear if the club will sack Solskjaer as replacements are scarce at the time of writing. Rodgers is under contract at Leicester and a compensation fee would have to be agreed with Leicester. If the 2019 negotiations are anything to go by, talks with Leicester are rarely straightforward.

Furthermore, there is a possibility that Solskjaer will remain in charge until the end of the season. The off-season provides a far more comfortable route for a managerial change.

Manchester United have won just one of their last six Premier League games and could, however, be forced to execute their succession plan sooner rather than later.

SN’s verdict on the latest reports regarding Solskjaer’s future…
Unfortunately, it’s looking like Manchester United have made their mind up on Solskjaer’s future at the club. When he signed a new three-year deal over the summer, there were huge expectations this season but title aspirations have swiftly ebbed.

There is still time for Solskjaer to turn this season around but there is increasing pressure on the Norwegian to keep his job – as things stand, only promising performances will ease the scrutiny on him.

An extension to the current poor run will likely make things untenable for the United hero and the succession plan might come into play.
