Brazil international Andreas Pereira is enjoying a second successive loan spell away from Old Trafford at Flamengo.
The midfielder was unable to impress enough during his time at Lazio to warrant a permanent deal, but he made the decision to move further afield to play his football in South America.
Such a move should help boost his chances of being selected for the national side again, but let’s not pretend he is a player United fans will be worried about losing in the summer. Pereira is behind Bruno Fernandes, Scott McTominay, Fred, Nemanja Matic and even Donny van de Beek in the pecking order – established by manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
I wouldn’t be surprised if club chiefs are hoping he does well so Pereira can build on a better career elsewhere. At least he’s playing in Flamengo and having an impact.
Pereira has three goals and an assist from 13 league appearances.
On Monday, however, Pereira’s father and agent appeared keen to highlight his son’s happiness at Flamengo.
“I think that today is the best moment in his career, not only on the field, but in the locker room, in the club,” Marcos Pereira told Esporte Espetacular.
“In today’s conditions, I think it’s difficult for him to return to Europe, in case Flamengo wants to keep him.”
Pereira’s contract will expire next summer making him another potential Bosman departure along with Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard.
