Barcelona striker Sergio Aguero felt ill with chest pains during Barcelona’s league clash with Alaves and reports suggest the La Liga giants will be on the lookout for a new goalscorer in January.
Following cardiological tests during the week, the 33-year-old has been advised to rest for three months in treatment, which means he will miss another chunk of Barcelona’s season.
Man City manager, Pep Guardiola, who worked with Aguero for five years in the Premier League, has commented on the difficult news (via GOAL): “We wish him [Aguero] as speedy and safe recovery as possible and he comes back, if possible, to play again, otherwise (to) enjoy his life and what he has done, (to) be careful and be safe for the rest of his life.”
Two in England are being linked with a switch to Camp Nou (as per El Nacional) in response to the Aguero news, including Manchester United’s Edinson Cavani and Arsenal star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Neither are young goalscorers by any means and that tells you the avenue Barcelona are going down with their transfer strategy. It is a club that needs a lot of change and they’ve started that process recently by sacking Ronald Koeman.
The question for Cavani is where to after United? He’s got the remainder of this season left on his deal was a lot of speculation last year about him wishing to return to South America, as per Manchester Evening News.
SN’s verdict…
I can’t see Cavani leaving United midway through the season – after all the effort it took to persuade him to stay at Old Trafford for another full season.
Barcelona will be linked with every Tom, Dick and Harry over the coming weeks to find them goals.
Luuk de Dong is predictable not the answer and Barcelona are a million miles away from where they need to be, as one of Europe’s leading clubs.
