Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has provided an update on Manchester United duo Raphael Varane and Anthony Martial, with the pair missing from tonight’s meeting with Liverpool.

Martial hasn’t featured for Manchester United since he scored his side’s only goal in the 1-1 draw with Everton earlier this month, whilst Raphael Varane was injured for France in the UEFA Nations League final against Spain.

fThe pair’s injuries are not said to be serious but they were enough to keep them out of tonight’s mouthwatering clash with Liverpool. Solskjaer has, however, given a positive update on the French duo.

“Raphael didn’t make it and Anthony didn’t make it. Those are the two we’re missing. Hopefully they’ll be back for maybe next weekend,” he is quoted as saying by the official Manchester United website.

Varane has been replaced by Lindelof in the team, with the Swedish international impressing against Atalanta earlier this week.

Martial will hope to return as soon as possible, having ended his long wait for a goal against Everton. The 25-year-old’s first-half opener against the Merseyside club was his first since February this year.

The return of Varane would be a huge boost to Solskjaer, with his side only keeping one clean sheet in their last 20 games in all competitions. The 28-year-old defender remains one of the best defenders in the world and will be key to United’s title chances this season.

Martial is unlikely to be a starter for Manchester United this season but the Frenchman could resurrect his career if he maintains the form he showed against Everton.
