(Video) Ole Gunnar Solskjaer settles Mohamed Salah vs. Cristiano Ronaldo debate

Amid Liverpool’s impressive start to the season, manager Jurgen Klopp has backed their star winger Mohamed Salah to win this year’s Ballon d’Or award.

The Egyptian forward has started the season in sparkling form, with comparisons with Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo now cropping up. Ahead of Sunday’s clash between the two players, Klopp argued that Salah’s left foot was better than Ronaldo’s and vice versa.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was quizzed on the matter in his pre-match press conference and was unequivocal in his answer and backed his player, as seen below.

“I’ll always back Cristiano in any competition,” Solskjaer said. “He’s unique and his goalscoring record has been fantastic. That being said, Salah at the moment, is on fire and you see some of the goals he’s scored lately.

“We know we have to be at our best to defend against him. Players like this don’t come around often and we’ve got to enjoy them when we watch them from afar. Not on Sunday, that’s too close for me. We’ve got to do a good job, not just against him.

“I’m a big admirer of the frontline they’ve had for many years now, with Mane and Firmino. They are players you have to focus on and you have to be nailed on for 95 minutes to keep a clean sheet.”

Stretty News Verdict

Clearly, there is no comparison between the two players in terms of who has had the biggest impact on football or who’s peak reached the highest. Ronaldo remains one of the best players of all time and although the Liverpool forward is a world-class player, he will struggle to reach Ronaldo’s level throughout his career.

Sunday’s encounter between the two players comes at a time where one is in his prime years and the other is 36 and still breaking records with each passing week.
